George Quarles
After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Business Management, George began his thirty-year career at QPI in the local sales office. From there he managed a regional operation center before heading up the Convenience Store Division. Subsequently made a member of the management team, he has held various executive positions including V.P Real Estate, V.P. Sales, and V.P. Transport and Purchasing.
In 2007, he worked with his four siblings to develop and establish a new, hands off approach to corporate governing that allowed for the transition to an independent Board and Management team. This new governance structure has produced a three-fold increase in enterprise value since its inception.
Retired since 2014, George currently serves as his family’s representative on the Owners’ Council and rotates on and off the Board of Directors.

The choice of a successor is crucial. Objective criteria must be used to evaluate candidates. The person who gets the job must have the right skills to lead the business into the future. Family members must have confidence in the person who is chosen as well as in the process used to make the decision. This panel will discuss the process of successor selection and leadership development.
